Over Christmas break, we went rug shopping with my mom and it was just about the undoing of James, who pulled me aside at one point to let me know that he had an hour left in him before he was going to start arbitrarily making snap judgements. But it’s HARD to pick a rug! As I expressed to James in a moment of total rug anxiety:
“I’m just having to grapple with the tough issues of the ambiance of our home.”
The rug prompted a full living room makeover… as much of a makeover as you can do on a budget, in a small space, and without the ability to paint the walls. It was basically a trip to Ikea, wherein I gave over to my total love of the primary colors, proving once and for all that they are not just for elementary school building blocks. I also found those cool sticks that someone was throwing out and I love them. James, on the other hand, is not so sure.
“Sticks are for outside.”
“No, it’s like a decorative thing now.”
“But we are inside. ”
“I know, but they are curly and cool!”
“I repeat: why are there sticks behind our chair?”
“Because I love them.”
“How long are they going to stay?”
“Until I’m ready to get rid of them.”
“Ok, well, I’m ready when you are.”
James’ response, when we moved the TV to a less prominent position and started playing the Netflix fireplace all the time:
“It’s like we’re old people… and I think I’m ok with that.”
Me too, Husband, me too.
I don’t know any husbands who approve of curly willow. Jared is always giving ours disgusted looks and complaining that they’re going to poke his eyes out.
I mean, they do look a little aggressive… but I love them! Curly willow forever!
In love!! Like I said on Instagram, I looove that rug and really think it ties the whole room together! You can tell James that it was worth all that time you spent at the rug store 🙂 Also, the fireplace on the TV. Just awesome.
Thanks!!! James did a great job on picking the rug and convincing me. And yes, that fireplace. I’m obsessed. You should be too!
I really like the rug! Also, if it brings you or James any comfort, I brought a small tree inside – not a christmas tree – and placed it behind our couch with lights in it. When I was part carrying part dragging it through our neighborhood everyone looked at me as if I was crazy, but I think it turned out real nice!
Thanks! That sounds like it would look so cool!
Cute cute rug! I also enjoy the TV peeking out under that console. How do you like that table, by the way? I was thinking of using console tables as fake “dressers” in our tiny guest rooms, and that is an affordable option. What do you think?
I LOVE it. It is so nice and slim and fits against the wall so much better than an actual entertainment unit. Sofa tables for the win!!!
Love the rug! So cozy. And the sticks – sounds like my husband.
Thanks! Cozy was what I was going for… let’s hope I still love it when I am sweltering in June!
1. Great rug.
2. Primary colors are completely acceptable as a decorating scheme.
3, I think God made husbands skeptical of both decorating items and the deliberation time to balance us out. At least, I know I need that.
4. I completely approve of the twigs 😉
Thank you. I knew you would approve of my color impulses!
And yes, they keep us grounded.
The dialogue made me giggle! and the sticks are pretty snazzy if you ask me

Thanks! I love them sooooo much! It’s kind of ridiculous.
There is a Netflix fireplace?!?!?! Mind blown… I work from home, and it’s SO cold here, so I may just need to leave the TV on all the time and pretend my house is warmed solely by the faux-fire.
Dooooooo ittttt!!!!! I swear that you start feeling the warmth after a couple hours. But just keep playing Episode 2 because the others have fakey music.
