Right before I went home for Christmas break, I was able to take engagement photos for Eric and Katherine, whom I met at college. They got engaged over Thanksgiving break, and we took advantage of them passing through DC to get some pictures around Dupont Circle and the Mall. Here are some of my favorites, a little later than I anticipated!

Not only because it is expensive (though, holy cow) or because there are endless mountains of paperwork (gross), but because it forces you to define who you are as a family, and then put money behind that definition. It forces hard conversations about values and priorities and spending habits and schools and careers and communities. It forces you to take stock of how you are allocating your time, money, and energy. Yes, a family is the people in it, but the space where those people live out their commitment to each other matters. Lots of hard conversations over the past couple months, and lots of good realizations. Ready for a new home and a new stage. (This is not the home, btw, but it sure is the embodiment of my color loving soul.)
