Lately, on InstagramHE: Wants to listen to “Jump Around” by House of Pain on repeat and dances so enthusiastically that he frequently experiences bodily harm. Is obsessed with tunnels. Likes to help himself to the fridge. Attacked a kid at the park who tried to get too close to Etta in the stroller. SHE: Just grew out of her 0-3 month clothes. Laughs hysterically when she watches Henry eat. Still loves sleeping in the sling. Has a dimple. Just started sleeping in her crib. Can roll front to back but finds the procedure traumatic. THEY: Show signs of being the best of friends...if she survives his attempts to get her to dance to “Jump Around” too. #HankandEttaI am grateful that both of mine have been summer babies. That both times I have survived the infant stage, I have done it in the heat and sun and water. I am grateful that when the nights felt long, the sun rose early. That when days felt dark, all around me was light. Grateful for heat and humidity induced naps and miles in the stroller and iced coffees on repeat. Our magically empty morning at the splash pad a couple weeks ago might end up being the last of the year, and that was a good note to end on. Just my summer babies and me, taking on this city. Though let’s be totally clear: you KNOW I’m gonna be back out there in the water if we have one of those blistering weeks in October where DC loves to shove summer in our faces after we’ve all stopped shaving our legs and started wearing chunky sweaters.
