“Why can’t I keep anything alive?”
“Listen, I love you, but you’re a plant killer. It’s what you do. It’s a good thing our children won’t need to photosynthesize.”
“But I photosynthesize! Think of how much sun I have to have to make enough chlorophyll!”
James walks in the kitchen and finds me licking dried soup out of a pot.
“I think we need more pictures of what we really look like, or our kids will think we were actually cool all the time. “
“What is that supposed to mean?”
Pointed look from husband to my ratty flannel pants, slippers, and soup covered face. But seriously, food is so much better out of the pan it was cooked in. We can’t stop eating this pumpkin gooey cake straight from the pan…preferably in bed.
” I think our fridge is really…taking shape. But when does our house stop being a shrine to our wedding photos?
“When I get tired of them.”
“When will that be?”
And a couple special words of wisdom from this past weekend from James:
“You know what you never see anyone doing on The Bachelor? READING A BOOK.”
“Sometimes marriage is less fun than a tree fort.”
^^The final phrase of his accusation that I am secretly stealing his pillow and changing it out for a different one each evening while he is taking off his glasses. Really he’s just mad that I am refusing to let him sleep with all the shams. I guess in his tree fort days he could sleep with any pillow he wanted. ^^
Reading your blog is one of my most favorite things to do. Also, I am jealous of all the sunshine you have in your apartment. I imagine wherever Jer&I end up in LA won’t have enough windows for my liking. Nowhere really has enough windows, in all actuality.
Awww thanks! You make it fun to write. : )
And light was pretty much the main thing we looked for because I wither without it. Our entry way is super dark and the kitchen is really dark after noon but other than that, we are blissfully blessed with light.
Also, you two will have such a fantastic place. : )
This post made me laugh out loud. From the soup licking to the pillow swapping, it proved that the day to day stuff can be pretty funny.
The day to day stuff is THE FUNNIEST because it is so real and repetitive, which is how funny habits build up. : )
I found us on the fridge! You guys have representation at our house too, on my marriage bulletin board, which includes save-the-dates/invitations/photos/etc. from all our married friends. It’s a little weird, then again, my single friends never send me amazing photos of themselves, or they’d be up there too.
So you may have noticed that you are hanging near our other married friends whose Christmas card was them and their cat. James of course looked at both and said pointedly, “those are YOUR friends,” but I would totally hang a Barely calendar up if you made one.
Maybe Lee walked in the kitchen the night I cooked pie and found me eating spilled chocolate tofu goop directly off the counter by scooping it up on my finger and sticking it repeatedly in my mouth…
Lee: “Wait, are you just eating pie mix off the counter, without a spoon or anything?”
Me: “Mmmphn.”
Lee: *shrugs, walks over and sticks in his finger too*
*(Don’t worry, the pie itself was very clean).
I would lick that pie off of any surface. It was sooooo good.
You guys make married life sound like so much fun.
It IS so much fun!!!! Even if you are under constant pillow accusation. : )
Today, Ben found me eating chocolate syrup directly from the bottle and didn’t say a word. It’s that normal. It also takes us a full five minutes to correctly distribute and arrange our pillows. I am glad to know we’re not alone.
This then, is love. And marriage. And AWESOME.
Hannah, as always, you made me smile. 😀
: ) Right back at you!
You totes have enough sunshine in your apartment to photosynthesize.
Also, devastating news on the Catholic front. Our dear Papa Benedict XVI–the model of Living Catholic Doctrine–is resigning at the end of this month. This news is consuming my morning.
I just saw that online and was planning to ask you about it, since you know I like to keep up with the Catholics. Please blog a response!!!
Hi there! I’m new to your blog and let me just say that I LOVE it!
Also, to be super random, my fiance and I are trying to find the *perfect* kitchen table and I have to say, I absolutely adore the one in your pictures! Do you mind sharing where you got it? (I promise I won’t copy you on anything else! Even if you do have excellent style 🙂
Oh I don’t know about excellent style… our home is basically whatever was on the clearance Ikea as is section — but thanks! The table is a generic Ikea one that was stained that nice carmel color. We got it off Craigslist, but I know that they have one almost exactly like this at alt times. It is the perfect size for what we needed and we love it!
By all means, copy away! : )
